Do you ever find yourself struggling to create masculine cards? You’re definitely not alone–I find it can be a challenge too! Over time, though, I’ve picked up a few helpful tips that make the process much easier. Keep reading below to discover what works for me!

Hello friends,
Happy Tuesday! I hope you’re out enjoying some spring weather! What are you working on these days? I’ve been working on masculine cards for my classes and this is a card I made in the past.
Masculine cards can feel tricky at first–but once you think a little different, they actually become really fun to make. Unlike feminine cards, the key is simplifying and focusing on texture and subtle details rather than lots of embellishments. Here are a few tips to help to get your creative juices flowing:
- Colour Palette – think earthy, neutral, or bold tones–navy, deeper green, grey, black, and brown. You can use colour, just stay away from pastels and bright colours (something that is hard for this bright coloured stamper LOL).
- Embellishments – Less is more. Skip bows, pearls and lots of bling. Instead use twine/linen thread, metal accents such as brads or clips and use simple die cuts.
- Focus on Texture – Texture adds interest without making the card feel feminine. Try using embossing folders, distress edges, layered cardstock, wood grain and other texture Designer Series Paper. Stampin’ Up! has made it easy with the textures they have been offering.
- Theme – Outdoors (trees, wildlife, fishing, sports), tools, hobbies, nautical.
- Add Interest – Tone-on-tone stamping, ink blending, background stamping and heat embossing in neutral colours or darker colours
I hope you find these tips useful. Masculine cards are tricky for me but, as I said, Stampin’ Up! has made it easy with the masculine Designer’s Series Paper that they have been producing.
As always, have the BEST time getting crafty! I can’t wait to see what you create, so please share your projects with me! Seeing your beautiful ideas and clever twists absolutely makes my day–and honestly, you inspire me more than you know!
Happy Stampin’

Great masculine card! You made a favorite of mine using a deer. I love the woodgrain background and added embellishments.
I love the simplicity and masculinity of this beautiful card! Keep the ideas coming, perhaps one day, I’ll get creative again! Out of the hospital, and feeling a bit better each day. Hugs to you, dear friend!
The wood, the leaves and that great deer stamp all come together wonderfully for this masculine card, you gave great tips!
